We had been flirting across the bar for several weeks at this point.
She was just so easy to talk to. Although she wasn't stunningly
beautiful, she was quite attractive. Mandy is about 5'2" or so, 110
pounds. She has a light complexion to go with her strawberry blond
hair, which she wears about halfway down her back, in long, loose, soft
curls. Her eyes are green and her lips full, and pouty.
Being a bartender, Mandy gets to speak and flirt with lots of people.
I say people, not guys. Mandy is bisexual, and has opened up a new
room in my life, something I guess I knew but was afraid to own up to.
It was a Saturday afternoon. I was in my favorite watering hole,
watching a ball game and flirting with Mandy, when I caught a new look
in her eye, like all of a sudden she was thinking, hey, maybe there's
something happening with this guy. As you can imagine, I was thinking
that maybe this lovely creature is interested in more than flirting.
As time went by, I noticed she was standing on my end of the bar more
than the other end. Was I imagining this? Was it wishful thinking? I
struck up a conversation with her, just to keep her there, and after
working up the nerve, asked if she wanted to get some dinner when she
got off. By now it was almost 4:30 and she was getting off at 5:00.
To my surprise and delight, she said yes, and gave me a beaming smile,
as if to say that was what she had been waiting for all afternoon. I
was delighted, and felt that warm feeling one gets when you suspect you
might actually have the opportunity to engage in a meaningful
relationship.
As far as I go, I'm 45, 5'9", 170, brown hair and eyes. I'm reasonably
fit as I play baseball in an over 40 league in my hometown as well as
frequent visits to the gym. I'm not a fitness freak, but I can
honestly say I look ok in a bathing suit. For this 26 year-old beauty
to say yes to me was a real pleasure.
Quitting time rolled around, and we jumped into my car and drove to her
favorite restaurant, which was a little hole in the wall serving the
most delicious Cuban food I've ever had. We talked about our lives,
hopes, and all that first date stuff. After dinner, we drove down to
the river and walked along the boardwalk, continuing our conversation.
